Recommended chemical use courses for farmers

Last updated: 07 March 2025

Chemicals are commonly used in farms, either to operate machinery or to control weeds or pests. Chemicals if not transported, stored and handled safely can be dangerous or hazardous to health.

Farmers are encouraged to undertake training on the safe and secure storage, transport and use of agricultural chemicals. These skills can be obtained through the Agricultural Chemical Skill Set (Course code AHCSS00074).

We recommend you make your own enquiries about the standard of courses conducted by all service providers. Trainers should be a registered training organisation (RTO) and provide the courses used for Agricultural Chemical Skill Set.

You need to complete the following units of competency in order to achieve this training accreditation.

  • AHCCHM304 Transport and store chemicals
  • AHCCHM307 Prepare and apply chemicals to control pest, weeds and diseases

For more information about the Agricultural Chemical Skill Set or to find an RTO visit the National Training Register website.
