All year, we talk safety. In October, let's get louder. Celebrated every October, National Safe Work Month is a time to commit to building a healthy and safe workplace.

Western Australia's theme for National Safe Work Month is about shaping what comes next. ‘The Way Forward’ is our opportunity to strengthen our safety culture, embrace innovation, and take meaningful steps toward a safer future for every worker, every day.

A healthy and safe workplace is essential for everyone. This year’s theme highlights not only the importance of workplace health and safety but also the benefits for businesses that prioritise effective risk management and worker wellbeing.

There are many ways to take part in Safe Work Month. You can attend one of our events or organise workplace activities to raise awareness about health and safety.

Workplace safety goes beyond October; it’s a commitment every day. Access our resources, guidance and toolkits to support you in building safer workplaces.

The Way Forward

Each week in October, we will spotlight a key area from the regulator's commitment and our strategic priorities. These focus areas encourage industry wide efforts to reduce work-related harm and extend beyond day-to-day regulatory activities.

  • Week 1: Health and safety representatives (HSRs)
Increase understanding of PCBU duties and the importance of consulting and involving workers in designing and implementing safe systems of work.
  • Week 2: Psychosocial and mental health
Improve the management of psychosocial hazards in the workplace, and promote positive work practices supporting mental health and wellbeing.
  • Week 3: Repeat hazard exposure
Increase awareness of workplace hazards that can cause multiple and repeat fatalities and serious injuries, and drive the adoption of appropriate risk management strategies.
  • Week 4: Respiratory hazards
Drive improvements in the workplace management of hazardous dusts and protect workers from harm.

We have put together resources and suggested activities to help you plan your own health and safety awareness programs at your workplace.

Safe Work Month events

This year we’re excited to bring you work health and safety events including The way forward for HSRs, Pathways for handling psychosocial hazards and Hindsight – Every action has a consequence.

These events are a great opportunity to show your commitment to improving work health and safety outcomes in your workplace, as well as hear from expert speakers on a diverse range of topics.
